Angela Carter Week – The End

ACW badge 4This has been a most interesting week. I had planned to read two books and managed to do that but I also got to see what other bloggers chose for this event and their perceptions shed a new light on my own thoughts. I’m in two minds about Carter’s work. I found The Bloody Chamber quite enjoyable but Nights at the Circus was a bit too rich for my taste. I am, however, grateful for having read this author because even if it hasn’t made me a great admirer, I can certainly appreciate good writing and Carter is one of the most resourceful authors I’ve read so far.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people joined Caroline and I for this week of fairy tales and symbolism. The most popular choices seem to have been the novels Love and The Magic Toyshop.
A big thank you to everyone who has participated, and if you haven’t done it yet, please add your link to Mr Linky here.
Thanks to Caroline@Beautyisasleepingcat, my co-host for this event. You can find a list with all the reviews in her wrap up post. I hope we get to organize more events like this together and I hope many of you will join us again.

Now I’m off to read Marina, a novel by Carlos Ruiz Zafón which I discovered this past weekend. So far it has echoes of Great Expectations and I’m enjoying it.

Have a great week, everyone!

It was a wonderful week, wasn’t it? And such a succes. I wouldn’t have thought that. I also loved the quality of the contributions. All the posts were amazingly thoughtful, some very creative too.
    Have fun with Marina!

It was a great week. I didn’t know so many bloggers wanted to read her work.
I enjoyed reading the reviews, it’s always interesting to see a different point of view.
Thank you, I hope I will!

Thanks for hosting Angela Carter week with Caroline, Delia. I enjoyed participating in it and reading my first Carter novel. It was nice to see so many readers participating and reading and reviewing Angela Carter’s books. I enjoyed reading some of those reviews. I need to catch up on the rest of them soon. Congratulations on finishing two books in a week. I loved both your reviews. I look forward to participating in more of your events in the future. Hope you enjoy Zafon’s ‘Marina’. Happy reading!

Thanks for joining us, Vishy, and hope to have you along for the ride again.
It was a bit of a race against time to finish my second book but I made it. 🙂

What a wonderfully enriching week! Thank you so much for cohosting this event. I surprised myself by how much I got out of this week.

I hope you do some more events together. And consider having another AC week again next year 🙂

    • Delia says:

I’m so glad this has proved to be such a great week for you. It’s nice when we get such a positive surprise, isn’t it?

I hope we will do many more events together – not sure if we’ll explore Angela Carter’s work again but other authors, definitely, so feel free to join us. It’s been a pleasure reading your reviews.

P.S. I’ll be curious to read your review on Pure. I had mixed feelings about it

    • Delia says:

Ah, I got a bit sidetracked by Angela Carter Week and now I’m reading Marina, but I’ll get back to Pure soon. I really liked the beginning of the book, but then my enthusiasm faded a bit so I can totally understand your mixed feelings. I’ll read your review after I have posted mine – thanks for the link!

  5. I apologize for not participating as I planned to do as unexpected business travel got in the way Delia .

This was a great event and I am enjoying everyone’s posts. There have been some terrific ones.

Angela Carter looks to be a super writer and I plan to read her work soon.

I understand Brian, it would have been fun to compare notes with you, but maybe some other time if circumstances allow. I hope you enjoy her work, she’s certainly unique.

  7. TJ says:

Thanks again for hosting this event! I got a lot out of it, especially since other participants helped me understand Love, a book I didn’t much like. Unfortunately, I got sick and couldn’t participate as much as I wanted to during the second half of the week. I’m looking forward to your next event!

    • Delia says:

Thank you for participating, TJ. I’m sorry to hear you were sick, I hope you’re back to normal now.
That was one of the best parts about hosting this event, many participants read the same book and had their own interpretations. It’s always exciting when that happens.
Looking forward to having you along for future events. There’s going to be at least one more this year (another author) and you’re more than welcome to join.
